Meet the Owners of the Lockland Family Diner
Catherine (Williams) Jones was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the eighth child born into a family of twelve children. Her birth family were gifted musicians, and many continue to perform to this day. Her parents owned their own business and Catherine would often find herself at the business dreaming of one day owning her own business. The seeds of this dream were planted in her heart at the age of nineteen. Many years would pass before she saw that dream become a reality.
Catherine and her husband, Michael have been married thirty-nine years and are the proud parents of seven children. Michael Jones was from a family of six children. He graduated from Withrow High School in 1975 and most recently worked in janitorial services at Atrium II. Atrium lost their contract to another cleaning company in 2013, and in 2014 Michael joined Catherine, as a business partner in their family owned business.
Most of Catherine’s work experience has been with the food industry. Her first significant employment was as a line cook for the Derringer Food Service Company, who are suppliers for vending machines. She would prepare food and it would be sent to the assembly line for distribution and packing for the vending machines. While raising her family, she decided she needed flexibility in her work schedule, so she worked in janitorial positions. After a while, her sister persuaded her to pursue other avenues of employment. Catherine took computer training classes with the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati. Once she completed her training, she freelanced as a temp-to-hire with agencies and firms in downtown Cincinnati, performing general office duties.
Her love and passion for the food industry never faded. She was called back to her “first love” in 2006, when she opened their first diner in downtown Cincinnati on Elm Street. This diner served the downtown for two years, before they relocated to Elmwood Place. “Catherine’s”, her diner in Elmwood Place was open from 2009-2012. The diner closed in 2012.
After a hiatus of three years, she and Michael found an empty storefront in the Village of Lockland, that would serve as their next business venture. After several years of planning and saving, they opened their doors at 122 W. Wyoming, on February 12, 2018. The Lockland Family Diner (aka “Good Eats”) is a family friendly, relaxed, down home diner. The food has no added preservatives, is made fresh daily, and on-site at the diner. The grand opening is slated for mid-April and promises to serve some wonderful food, entertain with some live music, and welcome friends from Lockland and the surrounding areas with a smile.
Currently, they are continuing to work on the remodel of the diner while still honoring their operating hours. However, the diner will be closed on Sundays until further notice, for painting and remodeling. The diner is open Monday-Friday 11:00-7:00. They are closed on Saturday, as Catherine is a Hebrew Pentecostal who celebrates a Saturday Sabbath. The diner will also be closed for the observance of the Feast Days.
There are quite a few creative ideas in the works for the diner. These include added menu items such as sub sandwiches and homemade soups, daily specials, lunch combos, and “Thanksgiving Every Sunday, which includes turkey and roast beef, cornbread stuffing, candied yams, collard greens, baked macaroni and cheese, and of course homemade desserts.
Stop by for a visit, some friendly conversation, and relaxation. You will be glad you did!
